Uganda AIDS Commemoration recognizes the pivotal role that Makerere University Joint AIDS Program (MJAP) has played over the years in the fight against HIV/AIDS since the early 80s and the support that is always accorded to the communities during advocacy events.
Every year Uganda joins the international Community to commemorate the World AIDS Day on 1st December. Uganda AIDS Commission (UAC) under the office of the President mobilizes partners at national and subnational levels to observe this day. This commemoration provides a powerful advocacy platform in reaching leaders and the community with HIV messages that are well aligned to the Presidential Fast Track Initiative (PFTI) for Ending AIDS by 2030 and mainstreaming HIV for epidemic control in Uganda.
This year’s World AIDS Day theme is “Accelerating the interventions to End AIDS by 2030”. This is aimed at mobilizing all stakeholders to put in more efforts to ending AIDS as a Public Health Threat.
Buyende District will host this year’s World AIDS Day commemoration at Bukungu Primary school, Kiwantama Village Bukungu Town Council. H.E the President Gen. Yoweri Kaguta Museveni is expected to be the Chief Guest.
