USAID LPHS–EC MJAP Project Shines at 25th Annual Scientific Conference Elevating Research and Innovation

In its third year, the USAID LPHS–EC MJAP project has stepped up its commitment to advancing research and implementation science. By intensifying its research agenda, the project has focused on documenting lessons learned and expanding knowledge on health service delivery. This dedication was prominently showcased at the Uganda Society for Health Scientists’ 25th Anniversary Scientific Conference, held on August 1-2, 2024, at the Four Points Hotel by Sheraton Kampala.

The conference, themed “Building the Next Generation of Research Leaders and Reflecting on 25 Years of Advancing Scientific Research,” provided a vibrant platform for scientific exchange and collaboration. It aimed to celebrate significant advancements in research while fostering new ideas for the future.

Key Presentations by MJAP Team

Our MJAP team took center stage with several impactful presentations, highlighting their work in integrating Non-Communicable Diseases (NCDs) into HIV programming and enhancing health systems. Here are some of the standout contributions:

Shafik Malende presented on the “Prevalence of Diabetes Mellitus, Hypertension, and Depression among PLWH at Iganga Hospital,” shedding light on critical comorbidities affecting people living with HIV.

Kasakaire Joel shared insights on “Inception of the Community Retail Pharmacy Drug Distribution Points: An Experience of Iganga Hospital” and “Using Quality Improvement Initiatives to Improve Pediatric TB Case Finding in East Central Uganda,” demonstrating innovative strategies in healthcare delivery.

Chrispus Mbaha focused on “Streamlining Community Actors’ Roles to Eliminate Mother-to-Child Transmission of HIV in Rural Communities of Uganda: A Case of Nabitende S/C Iganga District,” highlighting efforts to prevent transmission in underserved areas.

Kyeyune Lyavala Davis presented “The Journey of Busesa Health Center Laboratory: From a Corridor Laboratory to a Nearly Modern Laboratory Through Lobbying,” showcasing the transformation of laboratory services’’.
