Second Dissemination Meeting – AIM ONE Findings, PATCH3-IN Study

We held the second dissemination meeting for the AIM ONE findings of the PATCH3-IN study with the Kamuli District Health Team and district leadership — including the Resident District Commissioner (RDC), Chief Administrative Officer (CAO), healthcare workers, and the Chairperson LCV — at the Kamuli District Local Government Headquarters.

The PATCH3-IN project leverages implementation science to design stakeholder-informed, innovative interventions aimed at improving the HIV prevention and care continuum for young people in both rural and urban Uganda.

AIM ONE focused on formative research to identify barriers and opportunities in delivering HIV prevention and care services for adolescents and young adults. This included exploring the acceptability of CAB-LA (long-acting injectable PrEP) and the SEARCH-YOUTH model.

During the meeting, district stakeholders reflected on and resonated with the findings. They appreciated CAB-LA’s potential to reduce the daily pill burden and improve retention due to its long-acting nature. Discussions also focused on identifying the most feasible and youth-friendly delivery options for these interventions — whether through public health facilities or drop-in/community centres.

District leadership commended MJAP’s efforts in HIV prevention and pledged full support for the next phase of the project.

With Dr. Fred Ssemitala as Principal Investigator, the PATCH3-IN project continues to apply implementation science to co-create and test youth-centered HIV prevention and care models in collaboration with key stakeholders.
