Since 2019, Makerere University Joint AIDS Program (MJAP) has been implementing a capacity building program for health workers in HIV service delivery. This program was made possible with funding from the University of California San Francisco (UCSF), and the implementation strategy was named Education for Inter-professional HIV Service Delivery in Uganda (EIPHIV-U) with and aim of integrating inter-professional education (IPE) and Interprofessional practice (IPP).

Between 2019 and 2021, MJAP collaborated with 5 other institutions of higher learning namely;

• Makerere University,
• Busitema University,
• Clarke international University,
• Kabale University and
• Nsambya Hospital training school,

to expound the catchment area of the training program. Over the years, more than 2000 leaners have benefited from this program.

In 2022, following the outbreak of COVID 19, the Education for Interprofessional HIV service delivery in Uganda (EIPHIV-U) program, at MJAP, Makerere University,  adapted the use of online training in Interprofessional education and practice by facilitating the integration of continuous quality improvement (CQI) into case-based learning projects. The CQI-based training enables health care providers, program implementers and policy makers to measure standardized PEPFAR and Ministry of Health (MoH) HIV services indicators at health facilities in Uganda.  To do this, the EIPHIV-U team used data from the Uganda MoH District Health Information system version 2 (DHIS2) (the central repository for all health care data) and the PEPFAR reporting system (for HIV data) to identify areas with suboptimal performance, along the HIV continuum of care.
