Department of Medicine, Makerere University College of Health Sciences
Dr. Kamya (M.B.Ch.B, M.Med, MPH, PhD) is a Professor of Medicine at Makerere University College of Health Sciences and Executive Director of the Infectious Diseases Research Collaboration (IDRC-www.idrcuganda.org), Uganda.
He is a past Chair of the Department of Medicine and past Dean of the
School of Medicine at Makerere University. He has training in Internal Medicine (Makerere University) and in Public Health (University of California at Berkeley, USA). He is a founder member of MJAP, the Infectious Diseases Institute (IDI) and IDRC.
He chairs the Ministry of Health National AIDS Committee and is the Board Chair of the Makerere University Hospital Services. He is also a Board member of Ernest Cook Ultrasound Research and Education Institute (ECUREI) at Mengo Hospital.
In 2016, he was recognized for his exemplary contribution to the Health and Medical Sciences and was admitted as a fellow of the Uganda National Academy of Sciences (UNAS). In 2018, Dr. Kamya received the University of California Berkeley (UCB) School of Public Health honor as one of the 75 most influential public health alumni over UCB 75-year history
