Umar Kakumba is Associate Professor (Public Sector Management) and former Deputy Vice Chancellor (Academic Affairs), Makerere University. He is the immediate former Dean of the Faculty at School of Business and Management at Makerere, a position he held for eight years. He previously served as Head, Department of Management at Makerere University.
He is an alumni and visiting research fellow at the University of Cambridge, UK, where he completed a Post-Doctoral Fellowship program in 2014. He holds a PhD in Public Affairs (University of Pretoria, Faculty of Economic and Management Science); a Master’s of Public Administration & Management; a BA (Social Sciences) from Makerere University; and a Diploma in Business Administration.
He has researched and consulted extensively in the broader realm of Management Studies (with a bias in Human Resources Management and Public Financial Management). He has published numerous articles in internationally accredited journals and has presented papers locally and internationally.
He is external examiner and visiting professor at The University of Fort Hare; University of Pretoria, University of Kwa Zulu Natal, University of Rwanda, The Nelson Mandela Metropolitan University, and the Uganda Management Institute.
